Nilinaw kahapon ng pamunuan ng Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3 na hindi solusyon ang mga chartered bus na itinalaga sa MRT sa sobrang dami umano ng pasahero na sumasakay sa mass transit system.
Sinabi ni MRT general manager Atty. Al Vintangcol na ang limang bus na nagsasakay ng commuter mula North Avenue Station sa Quezon hanggang Taft Avenue Station sa Pasay ay timatakbo lamang bilang eksperimento.
“This is not an alternative. It is not even a temporary solution to the overcrowding of passengers at the MRT. Our only objective is to gather data and gauge passenger preference (on their mode of transportation),” aniya.
At dahil sa ito ay isang eksperimento pa lamang, sinabi ni Vitangcol na hindi kailangang kumuha muna ang MRT sa Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) upang magpatakbo ng Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).
“This can help ease the congestion of passengers queuing at the stations. But this is not even a temporary solution because the buses have no definite schedule of departure or arrival and there would be none of this service beyond the three-day test run,” dagdag niya.
Bagamat iginiit ni Vitangcol na nakipag-ugnayan ang kanilang ahensiya sa Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), hinuli pa rin ng MMDA traffic enforcers ang mga driver ng tatlong BRT dahil sa pagdaan sa mga tunnel sa EDSA, na ipinagbabawal sa mga public utility bus.
Isinisi pa ni Vitangcol ang mga kapalpakan sa BRT sa kakulangan sa sapat na impormasyong dapat na ipinamahagi sa mga pasahero at motorista. Ito rin aniya ang dahilan kung bakit kakaunti ang sumakay sa limang bus sa unang araw ng test run ng mga bus kahapon.
“Each bus can accommodate at least 60 passengers. One of the five buses transported only 30 while the rest only got less than 20,” dagdag niya.
